Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, November 19, 2010:

I have been waiting for this movie to come out since I finished reading the book. No doubt I will be saying the same thing once Part 2 comes out, but still. I was extremely excited to see this movie and to watch one of my favorite books on the big screen.

The acting was good, special effects were awesome, and it was a smooth adaptation from the book to the movie. They didn’t leave or take out anything important.

Yes every HP hater will say that it was a bit dull at times, but it was necessary to develop their storyline more and was interesting. Although, when the action scenes came, they were all pretty badass.

The first part when they left Harry’s house was awesome. Great graphics and special effects. I liked the little things they changed in the scene like how Hedwig died or their portrayal of the Pheonix wand destroying Lucius’s wand. Also the escape from the Malfoy’s estate was impressive as well. I’ve always wondered how they would portray Dobby’s death and how the knife managed to slip through.

Although I was a bit disappointed (not too much) when Wormtail’s silver hand didn’t kill himself. I thought it added on to the mysteriousness of Dumbledore. When I read it in the book, it made me wonder how much more did Dumbledore know? I do understand why they had to do it though. It was a minor part.

Perhaps the most disappointing part of the movie for me was how they changed the Kreacher storyline. I was really looking forward to Kreacher’s transformation but when they decided to take that out, it was depressing.

My favorite thing about the film was how it incorporated humor into unfunny scenes. The prime example would be the Dobby part (I love Dobby!) in the Malfoy estate.

There’s not much else to say if you read HP but haven’t watched it yet. Movie was great.

For me, 8/10.

Dave Chappelle: I just watched an interview with Dave and James Lipton on Actor’s Studio. During the entire interview, Dave answered the questions asked by Lipton with a lot of wit and humor all throughout the interview. He is just a genuinely funny guy. However, there has been some speculations on why he left for Africa recently.

The comedian went on to explain that he was not in Africa smoking weed, on crack, or doing other horrible things. He left because he wanted to get away from Hollywood and all of the crazy.

People called him “crazy” and a “drug addict” and he doesn’t appreciate that. He talks about the stress he went through being a comedian since he was 14 years old, as well as the stress he gets from have his own show. He wanted somewhere to escape from all that and that is the reason why he went to Africa. He might have rolled up a joint or two but only because Hollywood is crazy, not himself.

I respect Dave Chappelle because him walking away from a $50 million deal proves he is passionate in what he does and he is not in it for the money. I believe the only way to be happy is to persue your dream and anything short of it will be unbearable.
